Corruption flouts rules of fairness and gives some people advantages that others don't have. Corruption is persistent; there is little evidence that countries can escape the curse of corruption easily-or at all. Instead of focusing on institutional reform, Uslaner suggests that the roots of corruption lie in economic and legal inequality and low levels of generalized trust (which are not readily changed) and poor policy choices (which may be more likely to change). Economic inequality provides a fertile breeding ground for corruption-and, in turn, it leads to further inequalities. Just as corruption is persistent, inequality and trust do not change much over time in my cross-national aggregate analyses. EDITORIAL :
"One cannot help but be impressed by the scope of quantitative econometric analysis presented, both within the text and in the appendices. the presence of such analysis is a clear and bold merit of the book. Indeed, it makes it an unparalleled source of information to which a graduate student or a scholar may turn not just for excellent analytical points, but for the results of data analysis as well." - Ararat L. REVIEW :
72 percent of Israeli Arabs objected to the Law of Return. I bought this book for myself and my family. I know traditional Chinese. It bring back old friends, and they make some new ones. While Wittgenstein romantically isolated himself wringing his hands in the service of a semi-secular priesthood, Ayer made real gains in reforming British adoption, schooling, and discrimination against homosexuals.
And this points to what makes this book far more interesting to read than the lives of most British philosophers - He actually lived a life worth reading about! Hardly a famous cultural figure lived through post-war Britain without having dinner with Ayer. I've been looking forward to reading it, and I must say that I blown away at this amazing story of a girl who faced giants and won everyone's hearts in the end. Getting Up Steam , 2.
